I had an amazing 11 months in Oz with plenty of drunken shenanigans and all the usual International Playboy activities.

After nearly a year spent backpacking through Asia it was a relief to arrive blinking back into civilisation… well Australia at least.

Sydney:

I spent the first 4 months living in Lane Cove, Sydney, with a nice student bloke I met whilst traveling in China. I got a job being a slave to the wage but loved it - After having spent the last umpteen months sitting on beaches living out of a smelly backpack, it was wonderfully to have a 9-to-5 job where you could go home to a real house, with real food and real TV.

It was also nice to live with an Aussie family, with Aussie friends, an Aussie bird, and working with other Aussies. A bit like being in London really…

Where's the Photos?

No photos are here yet, but they will be soon! keep an eye on What's New? section though for updates!

click to see bathurst supercars I got the chance to go to the Bathurst races too which is one of the Aussiest of Aussie traditions (apart from BBQ's and worrying sheep) - yes, it's a day of watching motor sport! Motors, Mullets and Mammaries aplenty. Photos can be found by clicking my grinning Barnet above.

Anyhow, after 4 months of living in the 'burb's, boredom started to kick in, so I moved from the sleepy hollow into a HUGE share house in Glebe. 33 people in one building above a bottle shop can only lead to bedlam - and I of course loved it.

The house was run by a company called Sleeping with the Enemy where everyone has to sign a contract of at least one month which makes the house feel like a home rather than a big hostel. Actually it felt more like a big student flat, but with 30-odd people in it rather than just 3.

I loved every second of my time there, even if it did leave me penniless… You see I moved in just before Christmas, planning to spend my time getting drunk for a month - a task which I succeeded in achieving with undeniable success. Problem was that in January nobody could find any work.

Basically the arse fell out of the job market and I didn't work till March. Spending all my days hung over and all my nights drinking serious affected my funds, and all the money I had saved up whilst in Oz was pissed up against the wall - Oh well, I did enjoy spending it though! ;-)

I traveled around the state and saw some great sites including the Sydney Mardi Gras which was fabulous. I've a few photos of the event available here

I made some great friends at the house and absolutely loved the 3 months I spent there. It was my home and I'll remember the place forever.

After a while though I started to get annoyed with the work situation, and decided that I might as well go off to Melbourne with my girlfriend and be unemployed there, rather than hanging around in Sydney being unemployed (unemployable?).

Mardi Gras

I did get myself a lovely tattoo whilst I was there though, which you can see here.

Melbourne:

I cunningly moved to Melbourne to seek my fortune, but ended up working for the state government in the department of Human Services as a PA, but charmed the crap out of the ladies and subsequently got promoted into a researcher. Ahhh… the benefits of being an International Playboy.

I lived with Chris for a few months which was a laugh despite the rigmarole of a 9-to-5, and managed to see a fair bit of Victoria state. More about my times in Melbourne can be found on my plans page.
