MAIN KOREA PAGE…
So us Seoulites decided to get out
of the big smoke for the weekend and go camping. Well sorta. Any
excuse for a drink will go down well really.
The weekend was a laugh although it
did all end up a bit, well, Korean:
- The "camping in the woods" involved going to
a YHA hostel, sticking the girls into a big clean log cabin,
and the boys into one large bare room in the dankest corner
of the youth hostel. Somehow 18 boys made the room smell
bad within 15 seconds of entering it - behold the power
of man-musk.
- The BBQ was just rice, Kimchi, and some form of meat cooked
inside a rotisserie oven.
- The hiking on Sunday was only completed by half the group
(well maybe ¾) as many of us were too hungover to
speak let alone hike up a bloody great big mountain for
5 hours. I'm slack I know.

For those of you reading this that
didn't go on the trip, here is the blurb as to what it was supposed
to be like:

The autumn season is here, with perfect weather and the
most beautiful time of the year. The leaves turn red, and
the countryside is an abundance of color and beauty.
This is the ideal time to do some exploring of the country,
and that is why we have decided to organize a 2 day camping
trip in the Woraksan National Park. The location is Jaecheon,
Chungcheongbuk Do, which is one of the most beautiful parts
of Korea. with natural forests, fresh air, and very scenic
view.
We can enjoy the scenery and explore the surroundings during
the day, and also try swimming at the valley. At night sit
we can around the campfire and enjoy talking with friends
under the stars while drinking a few drinks, and playing
some drinking/bravery games.
The walking will not be difficult but exciting on this trip
and with the mild temperature and scenery to admire it should
be easy to complete. Please don't miss this opportunity
to see the countryside at its most beautiful and have a
great time together with friends at Adventure Korea. We
hope to see you all there.
Woraksan National Park: Forming part of
the Sobaek Mountain Range, Mt. Woraksan National Park contains
numerous beautiful scenic areas, including sixteen peaks,
such as nearby Mt. Chuheulsan (1,106m high), Munsubong Peak
(1,162m high), Mt. Haseolsan (1,028m high), as well as Songgye
Valley (4,000m high), Seonam Valley (5,000m high), and Deokju
Dale.
In the summer, the valleys form a cool resort with a rich
flow of water. In the winter, the snowcapped mountains and
valleys offer breath-taking beauty and have been called
to be a "playground" for the mountain gods.
The mountain is also called the "small Mt. Geumgangsan"
(Geumgangsan Diamond mountain is the most beautiful mountain
in Korea) or "Asia's Mt. Alps." Located along
the border between the Goguryeo Kingdom and the Silla Kingdom,
this park features historic sites and some of them which
contain sad stories about Prince Maui (the last prince of
the Baekje Kingdom) and Princess Deokju.
Recently, a national road opened to Danyang, making it possible
to traverse the mountain ridges from the Silleuksa Temple
at Worak-ri,Songgye-ri and Deokju-ri to Yeongbong Peak.

Ah screw it, 'twas a laff.
The following are Julie's photos from
the event. I've still to get mine processed, and also get hold of
Mira's photos which is always a trauma.
Anyhow, here are a selection of Julie's
shots that I've photoshopped. All credit goes to her for being sober
enough to record the event.

A picture says a thousand words, yet looking at
Barry makes people think of just one.

Now Mira has enough trouble balancing on flat ground,
so how do you think she did on a swinging rope bridge?
I just don't know sometimes.
Jack is your friend!
They'll regret those shots.
An arse.
Some arses.
Oh dear.
I have no memory of this!
Looks like I drank my sixpack.
