Crime

            Are there any places you are afraid to visit because of the high crime rate? If so, where?
            Are you apprehensive about walking outside after dark?
            Do you think your country is a safe place to live? Why or why not?
            Have you ever been the victim of a crime? How about others in your family?

DRUGS

PREVENTION

            What are some things people can do to protect themselves from crime?

- repairmen / builders
- 3 shells street game
- confidence tricksters / fraudsters

- Nigerian email scam
CORPORAL PUNISHMENT
            Is the death penalty a good idea? Moral? Effective?
            Do you think that the death penalty would prevent crime in your country? Why (not)?
            Do you believe that public executions would deter crime? If so, how?
            Do you think that punishment for violent crimes should be the same for juveniles and adults? Why/why not?


POLICE
            Do you trust the police?
            Is being a policeman a noble job?
            Why do people hate the police (pigs) when they are there to help you?
            Could you be a policeman
- did you want to be one when you were a child? Why?
            Are the police corrupt? How could that be fixed?
            What type of person wants to be a policeman (implying it's someone on a power trip . and as such should that type of person be allowed to be a policeman?)
            Would you always report a crime to the police? i.e. which one's wouldn't you bother reporting (theft is unlikely to be solved)
            Would you call the police if you had a traffic accident? Why/why not?
            Do you move out of the way when you see a police car with flashing lights/siren? What about if you see an ambulance / fire truck?
            Why do the police have their lights flashing all the time in Korea
- surely this just alerts the criminals to the police's presence so they can hide?
DRINK DRIVING
            Is drunk driving a crime where you live? If so, what is the punishment?
            Do you drink and drive?
            If it is a 'bad thing' then why do you continue to do it?
            Do you know anyone who has been arrested for DUI? Did that affect you?
            What would you think of someone who had killed someone for driving under the influence?


GUNS
            Do you think gun control is a good idea? Explain.
            "if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns" - true?
            If guns were allowed would you own one?
            Why is America's gun death rate so high?
            Do you think policeman should be allowed to carry guns?
            Comparison of U.S. gun homicides to other industrialized countries: In 1998 handguns murdered:
* 373 people in Germany    
* 151 people in Canada    
* 57 people in Australia    
* 19 people in Japan    
* 54 people in England and Wales, and    
* 11,789 people in the United States
*Please note that these 1998 numbers account only for HOMICIDES US = 11.3 deaths per 100,000 population
PRISON
            Does prison help rehabilitate criminals? (Should it? - i.e. is it just a punishment?)
            Is prison an effective punishment? (Why? or Why not?)
PERSONAL ILLEGALITY
            Have you ever done anything illegal? If so, what did you do?
            Have you ever stolen anything? Why? How did it feel? Did you feel guilty afterwards?
            Is it ever O.K. to break the law? If so, when?
            If a person steals a loaf of bread because he needs to feed his starving family, should he be punished?
            Under what situations would you think of committing a crime? - again mention vigilantism
            Is child abuse a problem in your country?
