Dodgy Adverts:
How I got rich:
How you can get rich:
Because you're worth it:

Now clearly DodgyBarnet.com
is the best site on the web, but there are others that can
entertain and inform you too. The following therefore are
a selection of my favourites.
The links have been grouped into sections which can viewed
by clicking a link in the floating box on the right. Clicking
a link will open it in a new window (don't want you losing
me now huh?)
NOTE: This page doesn't work if you're using
the Opera browser.

News stuff: |
 |
| |
-
-
No news on the planet is unbiased,
but with the BBC having no corporate sponsorship, it's
as close to "fact" as I think you can get.
-
-
Unfortunately the website isn't as
well designed as the BBC's but it's the British paper
I read - with a cross section of hacks from right through
to left, you get a picture of what both sides are saying.
Not as good as reading from a variety of sources, but
a good place to start.
-
-
Daily news reports from around the
world - but here the majority of the articles are humorous
or weird. To be honest I get more of my news from this
site than any other. Check out the Photoshop competitions
too.
-
-
Google monitors in real time all
the news reports posted around the world and gives you
what is currently making the headlines from all the
major publishers.
-
-
The IT news source. Some
of the articles are a bit too techy for me though.
-
-
Hey, no making fun of the geek -
I'm a biologist and psychologist at heart. Go to the
site - you might learn something.
-
-
Anything that annoys Western politicians
simply must be a good thing. I doubt that Aljazeera
is any less biased than American news stations, but
it's always good to read views about the Middle East
from a different perspective.

Email stuff: |
 |
| |
A quick run down of all the
major webmail sites:
-
-
Check yer mail.
-
-
Check yer other mail
-
-
Check yer other mail where you get
sent too… er…
-
-
Well, as you're doing all this emailing
anyway, you can use dodgybarnet.com's own free mail
service to contact me.

Hilarity: |
 |
| |
-
-
A great place to find funny and weird
news stories from around the world (or America at least).
-
-
It's sick - but oh so irresistible!
Certainly not for kids or the squeamish, Happy Tree
Friends is a flash cartoon series where the cute care-bare-esk
characters carry out bloody mayhem.
-
-
Man, I've done my share of work in
cubicle offices, and this cartoon makes me wet myself
every time. Thank God I've escaped that life. Read Dilbert
now before it's too late! You too can be saved!
-
-
A man with a mirror and far, far
too much time on his hands has created an site with
an enormous repertoire of facial emotions. Visit the
site - the boy is very funny.
-
-
The Darwin Awards celebrate Natural
Selection by commemorating those whom improved our gene
pool by removing themselves from it in really stupid
ways.

Games: |
 |
| |
-
-
Lots of free games. May I recommend
"Tank Hunter" and "Heavy Cannon".
-
-
Fiendishly addictive flash game.
Pilot a small helicopter through a 2D cave system. Simple
yet effective.
-
-
The gory version of the Penguin game
(with landmines). I got 1002 - beat that.
-
-
The classic dealing game - not the
web version.

The following pages are useful for
those people with PC games:
|
-
-
Bored of always having to put the
CD in to play a a game? Lost the serial number for that
other game? All you nefarious problems are solved here.
Clearly if you do anything illegal with the data on
this site, then it's got nothing to do with me.
-
-
A list of the best PC games ever
made. Allegedly.

Knowledge: |
 |
| |
-
-
A great resource this. The Last
Word section answers all those little questions
you've ever had from " why do you close your
eyes when you sneeze" to " why does
the same side of the moon always face the earth?".
The Feedback
section is a weekly roundup of the more strange news
happening in the world.
-
-
The late great Douglass Adams' Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy was started a few years back and
is now growing in size everyday, although its still
smaller than the Encyclopedia Galactica.
-
-
Ever wondered, well, how stuff works?
Find out everything from picking locks to building your
own thermo-nuclear weapons.
-
-
As far as I'm concerned everyone
is entitled to their own beliefs, as long as they don't
hurt anyone in the process. Now while Creationists don't
blow up buildings or kill people, they are non the less
a serious threat to our future. To steal an idea from
them: "Know thine enemy" - the link above takes you
to a site dedicated to refuting a range of the creationist
myths and smears against solid science. Fun for all
the family.

An amazing site with a form of photography
I'd never seen before. Using a combination of posh lenses
and digital trickery they have produced complete 360°
photos that you can look around with your mouse. You'll
need broadband to appreciate it properly.

Teaching Links: |
 |

Some of these sites are more
Asia-specific but still give great advice for an ESL teacher:
-
-
A cracking site with more info than
you can shake a stick at. Their
Korean forum section has been a lifesaver. See me
post there as DodgyBarnet
-
-
Similar to Dave's, but only for Korea.
-
-
A useful link for other teachers.
An English guy has created a word macro set that automatically
creates a host of useful documents that help you in
the classroom. Good to see a home-made site that is
well built and looks good.
-
-
Korean job vacancies and forums a
la Dave's.
-
-
There's a theme here… job vacancies
and forums.

Backpacking: |
 |
| |
-
-
"The Bible for travelers"
- whether you believe that or not this site is still
on of the most useful for a general impression, and
I do have a fair selection of their guides.
-
-
A small rival to Lonely Planet and
well worth a look.
-
-
From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, this
site will tell you your chances of getting gutted like
a fish or anally invaded in any country you might visit.
Bear in mind they can be a bit over cautious though.

Mate's websites: |

The Edinburgh poker boys (and girl)
are now online. Who will be the lucky jacket winner
this time? Clearly the only reason I haven't won the
jacket for a while is due to the 13,000 miles separating
me from the poker table - lucky for the other players
really.

If you're looking to upgrade your
old coal powered computer, then now is the time. The
guys at Chilli Kiss will fix you up a shiny bespoke
computer system that does, well, everything.
For more info check out their very professional looking
site that put's mine to shame. Click the link even if
you don't want a new computer - I might be able to get
beer out of them if they get enough referrals from me!
-
-
A man who's never been afraid of
a bit of facial hair: Beardy Doug's website is a cornucopia
of content - Uni photos, pissed-up medic shenanigans,
and the whopping motorcycle trip he did from London
to Cape town to raise money for land mine victims.
-
-
Cameron's travel page.
Got a website to promote? Well contact
me then and if it's any good then I'll promote it here. |

Miscellaneous useful links: |

One of the best places to find freeware
programs.
-
-
I can't spell properlee.
-
-
A great program for "backing
up" your DVDs into SVCD.
-
-
Having trouble with Kazaa? This might
help (unlikely to help when the RIAA get you though).
-
-
This is Kazaa for the Big Boys -
you need to share multiple GigaBytes of stuff to play.
Obviously I have nothing to do with this program, and
would never share copyright material.

Baby it's cold outside…

Cool Sites: |
 |
| |
-
-
One of the most creative websites
I've seen yet. It helps that I love the movie too. They
made me do it!
-
-
An E-Zine containing the scriblings of mad people. Very wordy, but certainly worth the effort.
-
-
A site chock-full of Flash animation
goodness. Some funny stuff, but I mainly like it for
it's cool design.
-
-
See what my friends have been creating
- some are pretty damn good!
