It wasn't all roses though I have to say. I did break my ankle Bungy Jumping, (which I have a video of) and couldn't walk for nearly 6 months which sucked.
Also I didn't have the best time socially either - strange really - I thought working in a hostel would be a great laugh, being around other like minded people, but when you've been working all day the last thing you want to do is hang around backpackers who are yakking on about the Bungy they just did, or how great skydiving is. When you're a worker, backpackers are just dull.
Things weren't much better with those I met working in the town. It seemed that Queenstown attracted nutters (not the good kind) and I never really found a group of people whom I gelled with. Add to that the various excitements of having a very rocky relationship and you get a rather stressful year for the Dodgy Barneted one.
Ah, who cares! It was an amazing time despite the social setbacks, and I'm so glad I went.
The locals, the scenery, the activities, the beer, the sheep, all get 10 out of 10. The social life that I unfortunately led - nil points. |
